The First Ever Salute to 'Pantomime'

 The Pantomime Alliance of Leicestershire  (PAL) which was formed to celebrate and promote pantomime amongst amateur groups in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. PAL organised a 'Salute to Pantomime' event at the Century Theatre at Snibston Discovery Park, Coalville, Leicestershire in April 2002 when six groups took part. The Theatre is owned by Leicestershire Council which sponsored the this first 'Salute to Pantomime'. Each Group performed an excerpt from their pantomime of that year. The Groups taking part and their pantomimes were:-

  Barrow Panto Group  Dick Whittington

  Long Clawson Cinderella

  Anstey Players  Snow White

  Duckpond Players  Aladdin

  S.N.A.P. (Snibston)  Snow White Awakens

  Thringstone Players Snow White

The Thringstone Players let the audience in a chorus of 'A Song for Pantomime' and a certificate for taking part was awarded to each Group by the Chairman of the County Council. the Compere for the show was Martin Ballard a presenter on BBC Radio Leicester and a pantomime dame himself.
