First Ever multi-faith Panto

Text Box: The Loughborough Council of Faiths has started rehearsals for the first ever (unless we hear something different) multi-faith pantomime. What else but Dick Whittington II - Mayor of Loughborough, whereby Dick with his trusty cat travel round the Indian sub-continent to retrieve the links  of the ancient and priceless chain of office of the mayor stolen by the dastardly and evil baddie, Silas and scattered to the 4 winds. Dick meets a host of helpers on his travels and in spite of the worst efforts of Silas and his henchmen, returns triumphantly to Loughborough to be inaugurated Mayor and marry his sweetheart Sarah. Hurrah!
The traditional story has been adapted by local author Peter Henton who also wrote the script, with multi-faith contributions from the cast.  The Council of Faiths has received a grant from the National Lottery for this unique event and they hope to perform publicly in Loughborough Town hall in March 2009. Watch out for details. The Pantomime Alliance of Leicestershire was able to take the original idea by the Council of Faiths for a multi-faith pantomime and develop it into a realistic pantomime format. PAL wishes the Group all the best for their production and whatever the outcome is proud to have made a modest contribution to its happening.

The panto was a roaring success and the cast and audience really enjoyed themselves. It was commended by teh Bishop of Leicester in his article in the Leicester Mercury on 28th March  - praise indeed. If the Group put on a panto next year, perhaps they will enter PAL's 9th 'Salute to Pantomime'  Competition!
